Where: 1453 N. Danville Road Danville, Vermont
Join us for a summer pasture walk at Sheep Meadow Farm in Danville, VT, where we’ll take a close look at bale grazing with sheep and the steps that follow. Whether you’re new to bale grazing or looking to refine your grazing system, this walk offers a great chance to learn, observe, and question fellow farmers and grazing enthusiasts.
We will be on UVM Grazing Specialist Jascha Pick’s farm, where he’ll discuss his methods of bale grazing and we’ll see the results. We’re thrilled to be joined by Sarah Flack, grazing consultant and author, and Amber Reed, UVM Grazing Specialist. Sarah will lend her expertise in pasture ecology to help us make the most of what the land offers. Amber has bale grazed her own sheep for years and will share her experience.
Topics we’ll cover include:
After Bale Grazing: What Next?
How to manage residue, fertility, and plant recovery after bale grazing.
Managing Pasture Recovery
How do you know when your pasture is ready to be grazed again?
Pasture Plants and Palatability
Identifying key species, their nutritional value, and how animals interact with different forage types.
This is a farmer-to-farmer learning opportunity, open to all grazing systems and experience levels. Bring your questions and your curiosity—and dress for the weather!
